HtmlControl: Future Development

If HtmlControl method setVisible(false) is used, then some browsers still function as if the HtmlControl is visible.

So if you click a marker and an infowindow opens, the map will try to open the infowindow avoiding the (hidden) HtmlControl.

(The default map behaviour is to avoid opening the infowindow so that it is obscured by other map controls).
